We change the world, one child at a time.
Support groups provide parents, children and young adults with the opportunity to meet and connect with others dealing with similar issues. These community groups offer mentoring, education, socialization and recreational activities, as well as a safe place for families to share their challenges and successes in providing permanency to children. Frequently group members support each other with informal respite.
Many SWAN affiliate agencies offer Post-Permanency peer support and educational groups throughout Pennsylvania, serving all members of foster, adoptive, kinship and waiting families. There is typically little or no cost to participants (with Post-Permanency funding), and some locations include childcare and other amenities such as meals and child activities. See the list below for details about each support program; please email the affiliate’s contact person for the latest information about meeting times, locations and available services.
SWAN plans to develop additional virtual support groups so our families across the state can participate in meetings and activities online, regardless of their physical location.
You may contact the SWAN Helpline (1-800-585-7926, SWANHelpline@diakon-swan.org) to find out about non-SWAN support groups.
