The Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF), the prime contractor for the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN), and the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center’s Independent Living Project (IL) are pleased to announce the agenda for the 2020 SWAN/IL Spring Quarterly Meetings. They will be held in March and April throughout the state; please see the registration form for dates and locations. SWAN affiliates are required to attend quarterly meetings. We also invite and encourage each county children and youth agency to attend, including caseworkers, supervisors and administrators.
The morning general session of the 2020 SWAN/IL Spring Quarterly Meetings is titled Ensuring the Youth Voice in Recruitment. We will explore how our work can and should provide youth with a voice as they move toward permanency, and how to ensure youth empowerment as we work with older youth. The Pennsylvania Youth Advisory Board’s mantra is “Nothing About Us without Us.” To expand on this, IL’s youth ambassadors will share their views on critical aspects of empowerment. Additional discussion will explore the characteristics of a youth-centered foster family, opportunities through the SWAN Child-Specific Recruitment and Child Preparation Units of Service to allow for youth empowerment as well as an evaluation of our practice to maximize the youth voice.
Following the general session, we are pleased to offer a comprehensive agenda of four concurrent sessions in the afternoon. Please review the session descriptions accompanying the registration form. Approval of continuing education credit provided through co-sponsorship with the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, a Pennsylvania preapproved provider of social work continuing education, is pending. The SWAN prime contractor will also issue certificates of training that can be credited toward the 20 hours of annual training required for all county children and youth caseworkers.
