The Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF), the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) prime contractor, and the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center’s Independent Living Project (IL) are pleased to announce the agenda for the 2020 SWAN/IL Summer Statewide Meeting, which will be held virtually on June 16, 2020. SWAN affiliates are required to attend quarterly and statewide meetings. We also invite and encourage each county children and youth agency to attend, including caseworkers, supervisors and administrators.
The day-long presentation for the 2020 SWAN/IL Summer Statewide is “Bridges Out of Poverty,” presented by Jodi Pfarr. This workshop provides both social service providers and community members with key lessons and insight about working with individuals who experience poverty. Topics include increasing awareness of the differences in economic cultures and how those differences affect opportunities for success. This workshop is based on the book Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities, a collaboration between Ruby K. Payne, Phillip DeVol and Terie Dreussi Smith.
Pfarr has been a consultant for aha! Process since 2001. She has worked with a broad range of groups, conducting insightful seminars that leave people learning and laughing. Her ongoing clients include police departments, judges, teachers, religious institutions, social services and fire departments. Pfarr engages her audiences through personal stories “from the trenches” and trademark sense of humor to share the knowledge she has gained from years of hands-on experience working in the criminal justice system and for social services and nonprofit organizations.
