The Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF), the prime contractor for the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN), and the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center’s Independent Living Project are pleased to announce the agenda for the 2019 SWAN/Independent Living (IL) Spring Quarterly Meetings. They will be held in March and April throughout the state; please see the registration form for dates and locations. SWAN affiliates are required to attend quarterly meetings. We also invite and encourage each county children and youth agency to attend, including caseworkers, supervisors and administrators.
The morning general session of the 2019 SWAN/IL Spring Quarterly Meetings will be titled “Racial Disparity, Implicit Bias and White Privilege.” This session will discuss the racial disparities present in both the populations of children in care and the professionals who work with them. The presenters will give an overview of the historical and structural causes of racial discrimination to help participants contextualize the root causes of these disparities. This discussion will encourage participants to recognize and develop a deeper understanding of their role as professionals to work as effectively as possible with families and children of color.
Following the general session, we are pleased to offer a comprehensive agenda of four concurrent sessions in the afternoon. Please review the session descriptions accompanying the registration form. Approval of continuing education credit provided through co-sponsorship with the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, a Pennsylvania preapproved provider of social work continuing education, is pending. The SWAN prime contractor will also issue certificates of training that can be credited toward the 20 hours of annual training required for all county children and youth caseworkers.
To register, click on a link below or complete the registration form. We look forward to seeing you as we continue to network for permanency on behalf of Pennsylvania’s children.
