2014 SWAN/IL Summer Statewide is Almost Here!!!

In two weeks the 2014 SWAN/IL Summer Statewide will be underway!!!   This year promises to be better than ever with a nationally recognized keynote speaker and a number of exciting workshops.

Debbie Riley is the keynote speaker for this year’s event.  Debbie will present “Beneath the Mask: AdoptionThrough the Eyes of Adolescents.”  The talk will examine how adolescent adoptees struggle with an extra layer of challenges about their identities, their future and their past.

Debbie is executive director of the Center for Adoption Support and Education, CASE, and author of “Beneath the Mask: Understanding Adopted Teens.”  She will facilitate this training, weaving in excerpts from her book. This workshop will help you understand how adoption influences the normal tasks of adolescence including separation from parents, identity formation and decisions related to sexuality.

Six concurrent workshops will be offered on the afternoon of July 8, 2014. This will include one by Debbie on the importance of birth families in the life of a foster or adopted child.     On the morning of July 9, 2014, five more concurrent workshops will be offered.

Also, come to our matching brunch on the morning of July 9!  County and affiliate workers  will share information about children waiting for a permanent connection directly with families who attend.  Families will learn firsthand about the children in Pennsylvania in need of permanency.  This is a yearly event and has met with great success!

The 2014 SWAN/IL Summer Statewide Meeting is closer than we realize!  Come join us for an informative  and exciting experience!!
